Prostate Cancer Survival Rate By Age

WEB Screening at 40-54 years

Prostate cancer: what is it and who is at risk?

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer among men in the United States, with an estimated 191,930 new cases and 33,330 deaths in 2020.

The prostate is a small gland located at the base of the bladder. It produces fluid that helps to make up semen. Prostate cancer occurs when cells in the prostate gland begin to grow out of control.

The risk of prostate cancer increases with age. Most cases are diagnosed in men over the age of 65. However, younger men can also develop prostate cancer. African American men are at a higher risk of developing prostate cancer than white men. Men with a family history of prostate cancer are also at a higher risk.

Symptoms of prostate cancer

In the early stages, prostate cancer often does not cause any symptoms. As the cancer progresses, it can cause the following symptoms:

  • Difficulty urinating
  • Frequent urination, especially at night
  • Weak or interrupted stream of urine
  • Pain or burning during urination
  • Blood in the urine or semen
  • Pain in the lower back, pelvis, or upper thighs
  • Erectile dysfunction

WEB Screening for prostate cancer

The WEB Screening is a blood test that measures the level of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) in the blood. PSA is a protein that is produced by the prostate gland. Elevated PSA levels can be a sign of prostate cancer. However, high PSA levels can also be caused by other conditions, such as prostatitis or an enlarged prostate.

The WEB Screening is recommended for men over the age of 50 who are at average risk of prostate cancer. Men who are at high risk of prostate cancer, such as African American men or men with a family history of prostate cancer, may need to start screening earlier.

The WEB Screening is a valuable tool for detecting prostate cancer early, when it is most treatable. If you are over the age of 50, talk to your doctor about whether the WEB Screening is right for you.
