2023 F1 Singapore GP qualifying results: Sainz takes pole

Sainz on pole after early Red Bull exit

Carlos Sainz Jr. of Ferrari took pole position for the 2023 Singapore Grand Prix qualifying on Saturday (September 30). He will be joined on the front row by Sergio Perez of Red Bull and Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes.

Sainz's time of 1:49.412 was just 0.002 seconds ahead of Perez, with Hamilton a further 0.054 seconds behind in third.

The qualifying session was interrupted by a red flag after just four minutes when Fernando Alonso crashed his Alpine at Turn 10. The session was then stopped for a further 15 minutes while the track was cleared.

When the session resumed, Sainz set the early pace with a time of 1:50.219. Perez was second fastest, but he was unable to improve on his time after a late mistake.

Hamilton was the only driver to get within half a second of Sainz's pole time, but he ultimately had to settle for third place.

Sainz's pole position is his first of the 2023 season and his second in Formula 1.
